Generalist or Specialist – How to start doing what you love.

If you do what you love, will the money follow?

In today’s podcast, I discuss the idea of doing what you love. The thing you do can be your hobby, or it can be how you make your money. This concerns how you spend your time and energy.

Motivational speakers, pundits, self-help authors and others all tell us we need to do what we love. That creates potential issues. First, you have to figure out what you love. But, what if you don’t know? What if you love too many things? How do you handle it?
You might be someone who has that one thing, that one thing they are great at. If you happen to love that one thing, you are golden. Go get to it.
You might be someone who likes variety. Further, you might be good at any number of things, but you don’t have a single favorite or a single singular talent. If that is the case, you might be a generalist.
Each type comes with benefits and challenges and getting to the answers to the questions I pose in the show will help you figure out your unique path. I mention a couple of books to get started during the show: Gary Vaynerchuck’s “Crush It: Why Now is the Time to Cash in on your Passion,” and Marsha Sinetar’s “Do What You Love. The Money Will Follow.”
