I tell this to every student and every participant at every workshop. We are all going to be called upon to take chances. Each time we try we might fail. But to restate the old adage, sometimes you win the prize. Sometimes you learn the lesson.
It has to be about that. It has to be about taking every stumble, every fall, every catastrophe and using its bones to build something new, something better. So, that’s what I do now. I might screw everything up, but I regret nothing. It is both freeing and terrifying, but it is also my only option. After all, I’m playing for keeps.
