Belly Ache Clue

The Best Clue You Might Be Ignoring

“Oh no! I can’t believe I did it again!” I missed the clue.

Have you ever said that yourself? I have. I’ve repeated so many patterns, the groove is deep enough to reach to China. ?

For a long time, I would say yes when I meant no. I’d agree to go to places I wasn’t interested in and do things I didn’t want to do.

For example, I’m plant-powered. For years, I’ve eaten at places like steakhouses where there was nothing I could eat. And I did it because the people I was with wanted to go there. I’d finagle the waitstaff and chefs to make me some amalgam of stuff on the menu in the hopes that I’d have an actual meal. My stomach would ache every time, but to keep the peace, I did it. For decades.

Now that I’ve moved to New York (vegan restaurant heaven), I’ve eaten in a non-vegan place once. People who are coming to visit NYC are asking me for food recommendations. I don’t have any that aren’t vegan because I don’t go to them. And you know what? My belly no longer aches about this. (I’m still working on some of the other bellyache triggers.)

See, it didn’t hurt because of the food I was eating. It hurt because my body was telling me something. I didn’t want to be where I was. And the bellyache was the clue I was ignoring.

Our bodies tell us what we need to know. And the belly clench is one of the first and best clues that you aren’t doing what you really want and need to do.

Pay attention to your belly for the next few days. Notice when you get that clench. What’s going on? Are you where you want to be? Are you doing what you want to be doing? Do you want ideas on how to fix things? Drop me a line.
