PR pros

If you’re a PR Pro, welcome. Please find some guidelines on how to pitch your clients to this show.

I know that getting your clients on podcasts has become a mainstay of your PR plans and pitches. There are some things you need to know before, during, and after you get your client onto a podcast.

Pitching Guidelines

  • Pitch so everyone wins
    • Before pitching anyone, please read what the podcast is about. Check out the show’s mission before you pitch and make sure your client is a good fit.
    • Listen to an episode or two before you pitch anyone to the podcast’s producer. You’re building a relationship with the podcaster as much as you are with your clients. Remember: one podcaster might be able to host a bunch of your clients and also recommend them to other podcasters.
  • Curate
    • Encourage your client to listen to an episode you’ve curated for them. They’ll get an idea of what to expect from the show. We know you and they are busy, but it will save everyone’s time in the long run.
  • Pitch with someone
    • whose ideas are relevant to the show’s mission (with appropriate graphics and bio materials)
    • who will have a unique perspective on the show’s subject matter
      • please avoid pitching clients who are just interested in marketing their wares
      • coach your clients on how to approach the interview so it goes smoothly
    • who wants to bring value to the show’s audience!
  • Prep your clients
    • Coach your clients on podcast etiquette and have them set up with a decent mic and headset/earbuds and not just sitting around their living room with their computer’s internal mic (Here’s a handy guide for a recording starter pack). They’ll sound better and look better.
    • Explain to your clients that they aren’t going on a podcast just to market their company, organization, or cause.
      • Encourage them to think of being on a podcast as 30% for them, 10% for the podcast host, and 60% for the show’s audience (who might become your client’s customers)
    • A podcaster who interviews guests likely believes in the guests’ missions or they won’t have them on the show. But they mostly have a love and responsibility for their audience. If a podcast guest is only there to market themselves, that comes through to the podcast host and the audience.
    • Please remember: The podcaster doesn’t owe you a chance to get in front of their audience. They can choose not to release an episode. Many have a clause in their agreement that states that.
    • If your client only markets themselves during the interview, their episode might die on the vine. That wastes everyone’s time.
  • Share the episode when it airs
    • Neither you nor your client pays anything to have your client on The Innovative Mindset Podcast.
    • A few days before your client’s episode airs, you will receive two assets in your client’s brand colors promoting their appearance on the podcast.
    • One will be formatted for IG, FB, or TikTok stories. The other will be formatted to be an IG, FB, and LI post. Please share them to highlight your client being on the podcast.
    • Note: If the posts aren’t shared and Izolda is not tagged, we will assume you are not interested in having the episode air and will remove it from the show and replace it with another episode at our discretion.

This is a reciprocal relationship. It’s up to us to be good hosts and guests and serve our audiences. Please remember to share the episode when it airs. It will help the podcast host, your client, and you.

Thank you for your attention. If you’re ready to pitch a client, please head to the Guest Interest Form and fill out the information to have your client considered for an appearance on the show.
