My Lesson in Leadership
Holiday Caroling Leadership Lessons
I’m honored to be the soprano and manager of the Philosopher’s Tones, one of the premier holiday caroling groups around, The Philosopher’s Tones.
The other night I got a nice lesson in what happens when you’re in charge. See, I now live in New York City. The Tones work in the DC area.
We had a gig for the big tree-lighting event at Dulles Town Center in Sterling, VA. And one of my singers got sick.
No one could substitute. What did that mean? It meant I got in my car and drove five hours to the gig, sang for two hours, and turned around and drove five hours home. It was a lovely time, and we did great! We also met DJ and entertainer Jack Diamond.
It was my job to make things work and help my holiday caroling teammates shine even though it wrecked me for the weekend.
That’s the life of the person in charge. You do what you have to do to help your people succeed. Even if it means you get no sleep. ??
