A Lesson in Patience?

If Patience is Such a Virtue, Why Can’t I Stop Thinking About This Teapot?

Here’s the problem with it being close to my Birthday. I start shopping. In fact, Rich hates it because I always end up buying

whatever I might want before he gets a chance to get it for me.

But when you see the very thing you want and then can’t buy it, what are you to do?

Last week, the excellent Megan and I went to the Chai Spot (go when you are in NYC. It’s fab!). And I saw a teapot. It’s a Hall, and it’s gorgeous. Art Deco, yellow with gold trim. It’s an Aladdin’s lamp!

I practically curtseyed as I begged the cashier to take my money for the teapot.

“It’s not for sale,” he responded. “It’s just there for decoration.”

“Noooooo!” (Think the Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader “Noooo!!!!!!!!”)

So, then, I went home and did what any reasonable person would do. I got on eBay. And I found it!

Here’s my conundrum.

There are several reasons why I ought not to buy this teapot.
  1. 1. It’s not my usual blue. (I’ve seen the blue versions and don’t care for the color. And there’s something about that yellow that captivates me. Could this be??? Could I be expanding my color palette into yellows????)
  2. It’s super close to my Birthday, and you never know, Rich might get my psychic vibes and buy it for me. (but realistically, how would he unless he happens to see this post because we don’t go into each other’s eBay accounts?)
  3. I already have two teapots that I’m looking at right now. (But really, is three all that much more than two? Besides, sometimes you need two different flavors of tea throughout the day. And someone else might want a third. So, if you think about it, really, you need at least three teapots in every household.)
  4. I have other needs for my financial resources right now. (But come, on! It’s an Aladdin lamp teapot!!!)
I can see this entire thing as a lesson in patience. Or, I can see it for what it really is, my next teapot!
So, what do you think I should do? Should I go for it and buy it or should I let it go?
