Laugh before you perform
Today’s Show Up! Journal power words: that old saying, “laughter is the best medicine,” holds true for me this morning. I woke up stressed about the workshop I am facilitating this evening. And when I came down to feed and water the kitties, my cat treated me to his silly method of drinking water.
He dips his paw into the water to make waves and sloshes it around and then lifts his paw out and drinks the water from his paw. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him actually drink the “correct” way. He is strictly a paw guy.
Watching that bit of silliness gave me the giggles. And my nervousness disappeared. I know what to do tonight. We are going to have a blast. I just needed a reminder, a silly, funny reminder.
And it works. Just like burping did in Willy Wonka, laughter breaks up tension, calms the nervous system, and lowers blood pressure. So, the next time you have to present or speak or perform in any way, breathe and then laugh. You will be amazed at how well it works.
